Naon (Murray) Hemstreet passed away September 3, 2021 in Granbury, Texas. She was born to Paul and Ada Murray on June 5, 1940 in Jensen, Utah. She married Alan Hemstreet on January 8, 1988.

Naon was a friend, she was a mother and a sister, and everything a grandma should be. She was feisty and flirty, sharp and opinionated. She was strong willed and thoughtful. She loved unconditionally and out loud. She taught me what family meant and how to make a place a home.

She was fun and sarcastic. She danced to Elvis no matter who was around and wore her purple spiky hair with pride. She never forgot a single birthday or anniversary, and anyone who picked up the phone to her singing “happy birthday” can attest to just how special she made you feel. Her energy was magnetic. She crocheted while watching WWE and didn’t care who knew about her crush on John Cena.

She was confident and inspiring. She was beautifully and unapologetically herself.

Her life was dedicated to creating and being the anchor to her family, and when we were all in the room together, she’d sit back, smile and say “I did this.” And damn right she did.

This spunky woman provided comfort for even the most embarrassing things, stability, and unwavering acceptance to me my entire life without asking for a single thing in return. Grandma’s house was where we all went to let go, to laugh and gossip, to gain clarity from life’s confusion and unfairness. She was a sanctuary. A gentle squeeze from her hand brought me more peace than she’d ever know, but secretly, I think she knew.

She was my biggest fan, I was hers.

The bond we had is sacred and special and ours. Though she’s moved on, I am truly lucky to not be wishing for lost time. We had time, and a lot of it. She was consistently present in my life and one of my biggest support systems. The warmth and love that she showed me daily provided me with the strength to become who I am today, and for that, I’m eternally grateful.

Grandma, I know you’re somewhere dancing and laughing and all the weight of the world has been lifted off of your shoulders. You’re free and you deserve to be. You lived a full, beautiful life and created a family bond that’s irreplaceable. I love you forever, my crazy lady.

See you soon.

“Everything dies, baby, that’s a fact, but maybe everything that dies someday comes back.”
