Loved Family, God and Country

Amy was born March 2, 1923 to Lewis Stephen and Lucy Toes Gardiner in Naples, Utah.  She passed peacefully February 2, 2020 at her home in Naples with family at her side.  As a teenager she worked at the Trail Cafe and cleaned homes.  Attended Uintah High School and was a member of the debate, typing and shorthand teams graduating as class valedictorian in 1941.  After graduation she worked as a type setter for the Vernal Express.  Amy married Lynn Pope June 14, 1943 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.  While Lynn served in Europe during WWII she drove delivery truck in Salt Lake City.  After the war they built their home in Naples where she lived for 73 years.  Together they raised five children, Linda(Lonnie), Wayne(Yvonne), Vivian(Gary), Dean(Dorothy), Anita(Tim-deceased).  Amy served in many church callings, and especially enjoyed 38 years in Primary and over 70 years as a visiting teacher.  She loved to read, learn, crochet, garden, write poetry and children’s stories.  Lynn died November 19, 1970.  Amy then worked for the Utah Civil Defense and Uintah County, 8 years as County Auditor, retiring in 1992.  She  served a LDS temple mission in Washington D. C.  In August of 1999 she married Emil Johnstun.  She enjoyed traveling and being with his family.  Emil died January 13, 2013.  Mother was a member of the Davis 2nd Ward.  She has appreciated her bishops and the wards kindness.  Amy did family search indexing of over 400,000 names, loved playing along the canal with great grandchildren, and hosted the best ever 4th of July family reunion pizza parties.  Her quality of life, home and yard have been lovingly maintained by Wayne and Yvonne.  Amy was proceeded in death by her parents, brother, 3 sisters, husbands,  and son-in-law.  She is survived by her children, 21 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at the Blackburn Mortuary,  Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM.   At the Families request there is no public viewing.  Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Cemetery next too Lynn.  Amy has a deep abiding faith in our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the plan of forever families.  “Someday we’ll met again, my love.  Someday whenever the spring breaks through.  You’ll come to me out of the long ago.”
