William “Bill” Robert Harmer September 1, 1950 – September 11, 2026

William (Bill) Robert Harmer, age 76, passed away peacefully in his home in Vernal, Utah, on September 11, 2026.

Bill was born on September 1, 1950, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Herbert Jesse Harmer and Dorothy Mae Harmer. In 1980, Bill met the love of his life, Kathy. The two were married on January 10, 1984, beginning a beautiful 42-year journey of marriage, family, and shared adventures.

A lifelong learner with a deep desire to help others, Bill graduated from Utah State University in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and became a Licensed Social Service Worker. He dedicated his career to lifting up his community, initially working at the Day Treatment Center at Northeastern Counseling Center in Vernal. He later served faithfully as a Case Manager II out of the Vernal office. Bill touched countless lives by teaching early intervention substance abuse classes for teenagers, leading DUI classes, and guiding individuals through the Drug Court program’s skills development groups. His spiritual life was anchored as a dedicated member of the Self-Realization Fellowship.

Bill was a man of few words but exceptionally many talents. He was a kid at heart, honest to a fault, and possessed a famously sardonic but deeply funny sense of humor. A master of many trades, he loved gardening, woodworking, and tending to the physical and emotional warmth of his home—ensuring his wife and family always had a roaring fire and a warm house in the wintertime. Bill was also a man of music; he played many instruments, most notably sharing his talents on the saxophone with a local community band.

Above all, Bill was a great father, provider, caretaker, and adventurer. He lived for outdoor escapades with his family, whether they were camping, boating, skiing, ATV exploring, hiking into uncharted territory, or playing lively games of badminton, softball, and basketball.

Bill was incredibly special to a large, loving network of family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Harmer; his children, Lisa Douglas (Robert Douglas) of Eagle Mountain, UT, April Angel of Pleasant Grove, UT, Summer Hatch, Raymond Douglas of Rangely, CO, and Tonya Muse (Heath Muse, Austin Muse) of Vernal, UT. His legacy lives on through his 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren and 4 siblings.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Jesse Harmer and Dorothy Mae Harmer, and his son, son in law Robert Douglas.
