Virginia Dykes Winder passed away on February 28, 2017 in the Ashley Region Medical Center in Vernal, Utah due to incidents of old age. She was 101 year old, just twelve (12) days short of her 102nd birthday. She was born on March 12, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Cooke Dykes and Agnes Austin Trump Dykes. Her beloved husband was Edwin Joseph Winder. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They had celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary before he passed away. They were the owners of the Vernal Office Supply. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Arlene McIntyre of Anaheim, California, her brother Charles "Dick" Dykes of Omaha, Nebraska, and her son Dennis Eugene Winder. Dennis was a twin. The twins were born pre-maturely and Dennis only survived a few hours. She is survived by her other children-- Kenneth Alan Winder (twin)(Kareen) of Lehi, Utah (formerly of Roosevelt, Utah) , and JoAnn (Robert) Hunting of Naples, Utah. She is also survived by eight (8) grandchildren and twenty (20) great grandchildren. She was always an active, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in multiple ward and stake callings in the Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women. She always enjoyed the calling of Visiting Teacher and being a secretary/historian for church and civic organizations. She had many passions and interests in life. Her main focal points were upon being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and following her Savior. She loved genealogy (family history) and temple work and understood their importance. She and her husband served a Temple mission to the Provo, Utah Temple. She always maintained a positive and up-lifting attitude. Her memory was incredible. She has been a resident of Vernal for over 70 years. She was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7th at 11:00 AM in the Uintah Stake Center (Ashely Creek Ward) located at 4080 S. 2500 E. Viewings will be held on Monday, March 6th from 6 to 8 PM at the Blackburn Mortuary and from 9:45 to 10:45 at the chapel prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of the Blackburn Mortuary.
