Sondra Hatch Shipton

Sondra Hatch Shipton returned to her Father in Heaven on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. She was surrounded by numerous family members at the home of her daughter Shelly Dissinger in Vernal, Utah at the time of her passing. Sondra courageously battled diabetes and cancer since 1995. Sondra was born in Vernal, Utah to D.M. Fat Hatch and Grace Burke Hatch at the home of her grandparents David and Maggie Hatch on August 30, 1941. She attended Central Elementary School and graduated from Uintah High School in 1959. Sondra Married Robert Keith Shipton December 18, 1959 at the family home on South Vernal Avenue. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. To nurture was her nature. Her greatest joy in life was that of being a wife and mother. She set an excellent example of unconditional love, caring for and meeting the needs of her sweetheart; Keith. She truly cherished all those around her, including many children that were not her own. She was a wonderful cook and owned several businesses, the latest being Sweet Memories Desserts. She delighted in putting forth her best, not only in cooking, but also in serving the Lord. She served in many capacities in the LDS Church, including Stake Relief Society Presidency. Many will derive lasting strength from her deep testimony of the Savior. She is survived by her husband Keith, sons Russell (Sharon) of Vernal, Scott (Jennifer) of Rigby, Idaho, Jeff (Becky) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Eric (Jackie) of Las Vegas, Donovan (Hollie) of Terreton, Idaho, daughters Shannon Sevier of Vernal, Sharon Gregory of Arlington, Washington, and Shelley Dissinger of Vernal. She leaves 31 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Neva Nemeth of Las Vegas and a brother, Dale Hatch of Vernal. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints Glines 7th Ward. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glines 7th Ward LDS Chapel ( 1270 West 1500 South). A visitation will be held Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
