Listen to Obituary

Seth Burnell Richens was born August 1st 1988 in Roosevelt Utah to Cyle Jay Richens and Kristy Sue Pemberton. He passed away March 31st 2026 at his home in Vernal Utah.

Vernal is where he spent the majority of his childhood and is the place he chose to build and live his life. Throughout Seth's teenage years he believed himself to be a rebel and convinced everyone around him that he was going to change his name to Felix. He was so passionate about this nickname, he made the decision to get it tattooed on himself. Seth has always been handsome and as he got older he became quite a ladies man. Even now he would say he feels bad for his sisters for having such a stud of a brother, Seth knew exactly who he was. In choosing Vernal he was always surrounded by family and grew friendships strong enough they became family.

Seth worked for RW Jones Trucking for the past seven years. From the very beginning, he was willing to do whatever needed to be done—whether that meant sweeping the shop floor or heading out as a swamper. While working, he earned his CDL, and he did so through hard work and determination. Seth never turned down a job. If something needed to be done, he showed up and got it done.

Seth was authentic. What you saw was exactly what you got. He was stubborn—in the best ways—unbelievably funny, deeply loving, and fiercely loyal to the people he cared about.

He had a way of making life feel real and grounded. He stood his ground and spoke his mind, and yes, he could be a little grumpy—just like his dad. But that stubbornness came from the same place as his strength. It’s what made him dependable—the kind of person you could always count on.

Seth found joy in the simple, meaningful things in life. He loved being outdoors—hunting and fishing, especially for coyotes, spending time down at the river, riding ATVs, taking trips to Sand Mountain, cruising on motorcycle, and his love for tattoos. It just happened to be that “Felix” was one of the first of many. Those weren’t just hobbies to him—they were a part of who he was. Nature was his sanctuary. It’s where he felt free, where he laughed the hardest, and where so many memories were made.

More than anything, Seth loved his family. He was proud of the life he built and the lifelong friendships he created. Whether it was a day at the river or just the everyday moments of being together, those were the moments he cherished most.

Seth shared a part of his life with Rebecca Arlene Briggs. They were married on November 17, 2012, and although they later divorced, together they built a family and created lasting memories with their children Emma, Tegann, Kaydee, and Scotty.

He was a proud grandfather to Kolter, Ryker, Kallie, Kenlie, David, and Charlie. He loved spending time with his grandchildren—watching them play, taking them on adventures, and even teaching them a few “bad habits” (Double back flip) when their parents weren’t looking. Those moments meant everything to him.

Seth cherished and was proud of his many nieces and nephews. He always showed up for them whether it was four in the morning to watch them open christmas presents and into adulthood making memories doing family barbecues. He also adored and treasured the time he spent with his great nephew Walker and his great niece Lilly.

Seth is survived by his grandmother, Nada Hatch; his father, Cyle Richens; his mother, Kristy Pemberton; his siblings: Heather Sizemore/Thomas Acosta of Vernal, Utah; Lacey/Ryan Petry of Vernal, Utah; and Shaylee Richens of Provo, Utah, Brother in-law Phillip Sizemore of vernal Utah, Step-brother Castin Hester of Vernal Utah—His children: Emma Richens of Vernal Utah, Tatiana (Tegann)/ Kaden Jackson of Vernal, Utah; Kaydee/George Robinson of Sour Lake, Texas; and Bryan “Scotty” Peterson/Ashleigh Royer of Vernal, Utah along with many other family members and friends who loved him dearly

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Vern “Bud” and Nial Richens, his grandfather Phil Hatch, his aunts and uncles Vernon and Diane Richens, Reama Richens, and Paul Pemberton, along with many cherished cousins and loved ones.

The love Seth carried within him, and the love he gave so freely, is something we will all carry forward. We are blessed to have the memories he leaves behind.
