Mildred Betts November 23, 1933 – May 20, 2025
Mildred Betts, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Vernal, Utah.
Born on November 23, 1933, in Myton, Utah, Mildred was the beloved daughter of David and Cora Romania Pierce Tanner. Raised on a farm, she learned early the value of hard work, family, and faith. Some of her fondest memories were of working alongside her parents in the fields and barns of her childhood home.
Mildred graduated from Union High School in 1952, and later that year married Bill Boren. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Vickie. After Bill’s untimely death in a mining accident in 1956, Mildred showed remarkable strength and resilience. She later married Lee Betts, and together they had a daughter, LeeAnn. Mildred and Lee built a warm and comfortable home and remained devoted to each other until his passing in 1998.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mildred served in many callings throughout her life, including Primary and as Compassionate Service Leader. She also dedicated herself to the American Legion Auxiliary, where she found purpose in supporting veterans, military members, and their families.
Mildred and Lee loved to square dance and cherished the many evenings they spent at the American Legion Post in Jensen, Utah. They especially looked forward to the annual Betts family deer hunt, a tradition filled with laughter and memories.
For 14 years, Mildred worked in Ashton’s shoe department, where she made lasting friendships and took pride in her work. After Lee's passing, she found joy in crocheting baby blankets, making hot pads and dish towels, and sharing them with friends and loved ones.
Family was at the center of Mildred’s world. She loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and treasured every visit, big or small. After a fall in 2020, she was blessed to have her granddaughter TyLeea care for her with love and dedication.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Vickie Ellen (Tom) Anderson and LeeAnn (Bill) Martin, both of Vernal; her grandchildren: Cody (Caroline) Jackson of Riverton, Utah; Cole Jackson of Denver, Colorado; TyLeea (Chad) Hales, WD (Danielle) Martin, and JaLee (Chase) Fladeland, all of Vernal; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; her brothers Blaine, Pete, and Max Tanner; and her sisters Jacquetta Tanner and Lorraine Allred.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 12:00 PM at the Glines Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held one hour prior. Interment will follow at Vernal Memorial Park.
We will miss you, Grandma — your strength, your stories, your warm hands, and the love you gave so freely.
