Mabel Marie Hatch Wall, born May 25, 1925 in Vernal, Utah passed away at the remarkable age of 100 years on July 14, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service and devotion to her family and her community.
She was the first child born to Abraham and Elizabeth Meadows Hatch and spent her earliest years living in a one room log cabin on a small cattle ranch in Willow Creek. The growing family eventually moved into the ‘big house’ that they were able to build across the road from the cabin that afforded them the luxury of running water and generated electricity.
Mabel was schooled in a one room schoolhouse until she reached an age that allowed for her to continue her education at Wasatch Academy. Her ninth and tenth grade years were spent at Wasatch Academy where she enjoyed participating in sports and associating with other students. She went on to attend Uintah High in Vernal, Utah for the duration of her high school years and graduated in 1943.
Mabel participated in college courses at St. Mary’s of the Wasatch before joining the nursing core that was established during WWII. She trained at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah where she received her RN in 1946.
She was introduced to an army buddy by her cousin named Lawrence Wayne Speers and they became engaged and married on October 1, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Over the course of the next seven years, they welcomed a daughter, Sheri Lynn and a son, Kerry Wayne to their family. Mabel suffered the loss of her beloved husband Larry on October 17, 1967.
Mabel was later introduced to Willard Oliver Wall whom she married on December 1, 1969. They resided in Randlett, Utah. Mabel continued her nursing career as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Duchesne County Hospital in Roosevelt, Utah and together Willard and Mabel ranched and contributed to the building of reservoirs to supply much needed water to area farmers and ranchers.
When it became time to retire from ranching and nursing, they moved into Vernal to be closer to family and friends.
Willard passed away on March 26, 2009.
Mabel loved nursing, gardening, travel and her family. Mabel retired from nursing after 20 years with Duchesne County Hospital but continued to provide much appreciated medical service to her family. Her vegetable and flower gardens were beautiful. Her travels with Will and his daughter Deon were highlights of her life. She enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends. You would never leave Mabel’s home hungry and she welcomed one and all.
Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Elizabeth Hatch, her sisters, Elizabeth Jean (Betty) Murray and Barbara Mott and her brother Lloyd Hatch.
She is survived by her brother Raymond Hatch of Salt Lake City and her daughter Sheri Lynn Radovich (Dale) and son Kerry Wayne Speers (Terryl).
