Lenis Fay Cook Atwood loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89. She was born to Robert and Rosie Cook on May 9, 1936. She met the love of her life Alvie Atwood, when he went to work for her dad on the farm. They married on September 12, 1958 in her family’s home in Vernal. They had 2 children; Dean Ray and Shanna Fay.
Lenis and Alvie started their own sheep herd by raising bum lambs. Lenis would help bottle feed them and sometimes if it was cold she would have one or two in a box in front of the stove warming up.
They had a ranch outside of Meeker, Colorado where the family spent their summers.
Lenis was a kind and loving person, she loved her family and the Lord. She enjoyed going to the church and watching conference. After she fell and broke her hip, she had to walk with a walker.
She didn’t want burden anyone so she stopped going to church. She enjoyed the Deacons that would bring her the sacrament.
Anytime you would go to her house she would be watching old westerns like Gunsmoke.
She is survived by her Children; Shanna (Donald) Taylor, Dean (Penni) Atwood, grandchildren; Natasha (Christapher) Taylor, Brian (Ashley) Miller, John (Annie) Miller, Kathleen Patten, Jessica Atwood, Travis (Kelcee) Atwood, Great-grandchildren; Damein, Sandra, James, Tobias, Valerie, Jaxson, Cole, Nisha, Tradden, Donovan, Peyton, Mark, Zoey, Melody, Kieran, Kieda, Keani, Bailey, Brilee, Cheyenne, Grant, Akria, Billy, Irisa, Kaylee, Josephine, and Riggin.
Lenis is preceded in death by her husband Alvie Atwood, Parents, Robert and Rosie Cook, brothers; Lowell, Floyd, Don, Bobby, Sisters; Ruby, Afton, Rosie, daughter-in-law Karan Ruth Atwood, grandson: Preston Toby.
Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Uintah Stake Center (4080 South 3500 East) at 11 AM with viewings Sunday 6-8 PM at the Mortuary and Monday at the Church 9:45-10:45 prior to service.
Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park.
