Kim W. Abplanalp, age 63, peacefully passed away from this earth life on September 20th, 2023, surrounded by his family after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.
Kim was born July 15th, 1960, to Warren Ross Abplanalp and Lois H. Abplanalp in Vernal, UT. He spent most of his childhood in Vernal with a loving family, wonderful friends, and a supportive community. He graduated from Uintah High School in 1978.
Kim married his beautiful, eternal companion Cheryl Allen in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 10th, 1981. Kim and Cheryl were blessed with five children: Danielle, Kyle, AnnDee, Allen, and Joshua.
The most important thing to Kim in this life was his family. He worked hard to provide for them, often working 2 or 3 jobs at a time. He taught strong work ethic through his example. He lovingly taught the gospel to his children, (he gave all the credit to his wife, but he led his family in faith through his actions). He was inspired to build a home where his family had a comfortable place to stay. He loved attending activities that were important to his children and grandchildren.
Kim loved camping, telling jokes around the campfire, speaking in tongues (Pig Latin), cooking Dutch oven meals, planning, building, and improving his home, and working on projects for friends and family. His garage was his favorite place to spend his free time, but he could also be found wandering through Lowes, hunting for tools on clearance. He would proudly play the game, “guess how little I paid for this?” He was a picky eater but loved Fritos, lays classic potato chips, vanilla ice cream, Reese’s, and code red mountain dew. He loved his animals and was loved by them. He loved spending time on the mountain camping and fishing with his friends and family. He was a fun dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend. He loved his grandchildren and showed this by his constant, good-natured teasing and joking.
Kim had a talent for making people laugh. One of his greatest gifts was his sense of humor. He made everyone laugh with his funny sayings and silly songs. His good nature and sense of humor were with him until the very end. Kim spent his life helping and serving others. Kim served in various callings within the stake, branch presidency, bishoprics, scouts, and primary. He built relationships with youth decades ago that are still strong today. He magnified his callings and was a true disciple of Christ. He was a friend to all and made everyone in his home, workplace, neighborhood, ward, and school bus feel welcome. There are no words for how greatly he will be missed.
Kim is survived by his wife: Cheryl Abplanalp; children: Danielle (Brett) Kraus, Kyle (Lindsey) Abplanalp, AnnDee Tracy, Allen (Shandee) Abplanalp & Joshua Abplanalp; grandchildren: Tyler, Kayson, Zeke, Addie, Korinne, Emerie, Jexxsen, Jace, Waylon, Adlee, Rylan, Dax, & Emmerson; Siblings: Terry, Larry, Loislynn, Linda, Keith, and his twin Kathy. He is proceeded in death by his Mother, Father, and Sister Helen.
