John Clark Dickerson
December 15, 1934 Cristobal, USA Canal Zone, Panama
May 15, 2025 Dutch John, Utah
John Clark Dickerson was born in Cristobal, Panama to Donald M. Dickerson and Marion Clark Dickerson. His father, a dentist, and his uncles, engineers, assisted in building the Panama Canal. He had one older sister, Dona.
Marion passed away when John was eight and his family moved for a brief time to Council Bluffs, Iowa where his father married Dorothy L. Smith. They then moved to Palo Alto, California where John excelled in sports and dreamed of playing professional baseball, held California state records in swimming, and loved water polo and tennis. He was also an eight-handicap golfer. He remained friends with many of his high school buddies and served in the Korean War with some of them.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management from Oregon State, he was hired as a Conservation Officer for the Utah State Fish and Game. He worked for the DWR (Fish and Game) for 31 years in St. George, Ogden, Price, Vernal and Dutch John.
While in Ogden, he married Harriet Ann White. They had three daughters, Genevieve, Susan and Claire. They hunted and fished with the girls and family friends, the Parkins and Diamonds.
John’s retirement was peppered with great experiences. For many years he hunted pheasants at Tim Larson’s Farm in Nebraska; elk in Pipe Creek and fished for halibut in Alaska, sturgeon in Oregon, and bass in Canada.
In Dutch John, he was known as “the old guy who mowed lawns”. At one point he had as many as 23 lawns he was managing. As he aged, this number decreased, and he was only mowing six lawns in 2024.
John loved the San Francisco 49ers, flannel shirts, levis, knives and a ball cap. But most of all he loved his family. He worked hard to remember the names of his seven grandchildren, their spouses and eight great grandchildren. But he could tell you the name of every dog we had. And there were lots! John and Harriet love the community, beauty and peace in Dutch John. May he rest in peace and love.
