Janet Jean Merkley passed away November 27, 2025. She was born on July 31, 1963 in Palo Alto, California to Gerard and Betty Jean Beukers, the fifth of six children, and grew up in Redwood City, California.
Janet pursued her education at Brigham Young University, earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and early childhood development. This educational foundation fueled her passion for nurturing and guiding children, a commitment she lived out in her active participation in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Janet served in numerous callings, mostly within the primary organization, where she had an impact on the lives of many young people.
In 1987, Janet married Chad Merkley in the Jordan River Temple, and togetherthey raised a loving family that includes their daughters, Heather (Mark) Meierand Amber (Skyler) May as well as their sons, Derek (Katie), Kyle (Courtney),and Devin (Nicole) Merkley. Janet’s love for her children was evident in everyaspect of her life, and she cherished the time spent together as a family. The truejoy of her life, however, were her seven grandchildren: Taylee, Dylan, Cameron, Quentin, Kove, Jackson, and Payson.
Janet’s life journey included two decades spent in Vernal, Utah, before she settled in Pleasant View, Utah, where she called home for another twenty years. Janet found joy in scrapbooking, reading, and relished her time spent at the beach.
Janet is survived by her husband, children, mother and mother-in-law, Charlene Merkley. She is also survived by her brothers, David, Robert, Brian, Steven Beukers and her sister, Helen Morris. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerard Beukers; her father-in-law Glen Merkley, her nephews Brandon Beukers, and Robert Merkley, as well as a dear friend Chris Simmons and other cherished family members including grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View 8th Ward, 250 W Elberta Dr. Friends may visit family on Friday from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, December 6, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Vernal Memorial Park.
