J T Lewellen

JT Lewellen, age 90, born November 19, 1926 to Levi and Susie (Marris) Lewellen of Snyder, TX joined his beautiful bride Loraine for eternity on April 25, 2017. He joined the Navy December 1, 1944 as a Fireman Second Class on the USS Cowpens during WWII. After the war he spent time in the oilfield of Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, during this time he married the love of his life Loraine Chivers, in Craig, CO on March 8, 1952. They lived in Mesa, AZ for 20+ years before retiring in Vernal. He loved to read, especially a good western novel, travel, woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, riding quads to view the wildlife, and sharing the memories with anyone that would listen. He enjoyed the outdoors so much that in his later years when he couldn't get out he watched the Outdoor channel on TV. JT, is proceeded in death , by wife Loraine. Brothers, Lawrence and Rusty Lewellen, sister Ruth Lawson, and daughter Norma Meador. He is survived by son Rick Lewellen, grandchildren Gilbert Meador, Bryan Meador, Frances Perrin, Ricky Lewellen and Jeffery Lewellen along with 13 great grandchildren and 4 great - great grandchildren. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff and nurses of Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice for their compassion and support during his final days. Services will be conducted on Saturday April 29, 2017 at Blackburn Mortuary, viewing to take place from 1:00 pm to 1:45 funeral at 2:00 p.m. Graveside immediately following Vernal Memorial Park, with military honors, under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
