In Loving Memory

Iris Rae Swain Hacking, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on October 4, 2025, in Bay City, T.X. She was 94 years old. Iris was born to Shelby and Marian Swain on October 10, 1930, in Vernal, Utah. She was one of six children, Nick, Barbara, Diane, Sue, and Betty. She brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew her. She had a beautiful spirit that shaped the remarkable person that she became.

Iris married the love of her life, Lorin Clive Hacking, in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 4,1948, where they were sealed for eternity. Together, they raised three wonderful children: David, Ann, and Cole. Her legacy lives on through her eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren with another on the way. She was predeceased by her husband Lorin, parents Shelby and Marian, siblings Barbara, Betty, Diane, and Nick, as well as her son David, and grandson John. Iris is survived by her sister Susan, daughter Ann, son Cole, many devoted family members, dear friends, and countless individuals whose lives were touched by her presence.

Iris was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served many positions in the relief society as well as in the Vernal temple. Alongside her husband Lorin, Iris served twenty-seven years in the placement program. She also had the opportunity to teach the children at the Jr. High School. With Lorin, Ann, and Cole, she was called to serve two and a half years on an Indian mission. Her commitment to service inspired others and left a legacy of compassion and hope.

Alongside her husband Lorin, Iris enjoyed working in the cannery. They were also both members of a Jeep posse. She loved to ride motorcycles and work in her garden and flower bed. Although never published, Iris loved to write children’s books. Iris enjoyed baking, crafting, quilting, and spending time with her family. She recently picked up a new hobby, collecting seashells and fishing at the beach. Although she caught many types of fish, she always spoke about her favorite one, the hammerhead shark.

Iris demonstrated faith and dedication in every endeavor. Her contributions had a lasting impact on her family, friends, and community. Her life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a steadfast commitment to those around her. Above all, she cherished her faith, family, friends, sharing memorable moments, laughter, and unconditional love. Her wisdom, warmth, and love will always be remembered and celebrated. Her memory will live on forever in our hearts.
