Ila May Peterson

Ila May Wilkins Peterson passed away at age 88, the morning of March 20, 2016 at Uintah Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 30, 1928 to George Andrew and Blanche Haslem Wilkins in Jensen, Utah. She was the oldest child and had 3 brothers. She grew up and lived most of her life in Jensen. She married the love of her life Blake L Peterson November 28, 1944 in Jensen. Blake was in the Navy and Ila went to live in Key West, Florida; Falmouth, Massachusetts; and Great Lakes, Illinois as he served stateside during WWII. When he was assigned overseas she returned home. When WWII ended Blake and Ila made their home in Jensen. They were blessed with four children, Lana, Marie, Arlen and Keith. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple, September 17, 1965. She was a loving wife to her husband, a wonderful mom and a devoted daughter to her mother who was her best friend. Ila was a kind and compassionate lady who always found the best in everyone. She loved gardening and flowers. Her yard was a paradise. Her other hobbies were quilting, puzzles, sewing, reading and spending time with her family, making everyone believe they were her "favorite". She never missed an activity, event or ball game that her children or grandchildren participated in. Her greatest joy was her family, she truly enjoyed the countless times we spent together for picnics, BBQ's and celebrating holidays. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Secretary to seven Relief Society Presidents, 21 years in Primary and also served in MIA and Sunday School. Her final 5 years were spent at the Uintah Care Center, she made everyone there her family. She had two roommates during her time there, Millie Haslem and Vivian Spahr who became her dear friends. Ila was welcomed home with open arms by her husband, Blake L Peterson and great grandson Ryler Lee Lister, as well as her parents and 3 brothers Floyd "Tobe", Lee and Vern Wilkins. She is survived by her children Lana (Ron) Walker, Marie (Rick) Spurlock, Arlen (Susan) Peterson and Keith (Verna) Peterson, 9 grandchildren, Shelly, Karine, Troy, Treisa, Chett, Cole, Jared, Rhett and Clint; 13 great-grandchildren Kayli, Camron, Kandalyn, Nicole, Jordan, Brooklyn, Mia, Denim, Dason, Tielee, Taylor, Haegen and Bryce; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Dustin, Makalah, Makynzey, Lennon, Parker and Kairi and 3 sisters-in-law Shirley, Velda and Harriet Wilkins. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Jensen Chapel. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be at the Jensen Cemetery. Our family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful and caring people at Uintah Care Center for their kind and loving care of "Miss Ila" for the past 5 years. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Jensen LDS Chapel. A viewing for family and friends will be At the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary Friday from 6-8 PM and at the chapel 9:45-10:45 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Jensen Cemetery.
