Heber Rulon Schurz passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 20th, 2017 in the comfort of his home with his wife by his side. "Red", as his friends and family fondly knew him, was born March 23rd 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Harold Fredrick Schurz and Mamie C. Swain Schurz. His early years were spent in Ogden, Utah before the family moved to Lapoint, Utah in 1956. This is where Rulon met his future wife who was a neighbor. In July of 1957 he married his lifetime love, Carol ReNae Rassmussen in Lapoint, Utah. They would have been married for 60 years this July. They welcomed their first child Jessie Lynn Schurz in January 1958. In May of 1963 their second child, Penny DeNae Schurz Hutchinson joined the family. Tina LaDawn Schurz-Edgar, their third and final child was welcomed in to their family, December of 1956. In early 1966 Red and his family moved to Battle Mountain Nevada where he worked for Duval Gold Corporation. In 1996 he and the family purchased and ran the Ho-Motel for 13 years before they sold it and returned to their home town of Lapoint, Utah for a short while. Next, They moved to Evanston, Wyoming where they managed a Mobile Home Park until 1989 (9years), then they returned to Lapoint, Utah where they have lived ever since. After moving back, Rulon worked at Flaming Gorge during the summer and drove school bus for the Uintah School district in the winters until his health made it hard for him to work. Heber Rulon "Red" is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, carol ReNae Schurz, his children, Jesse Lynn Schurz (Heather), Penny DeNae Schurz-Hutchinson (Shane), and Tina LaDawn Schurz-Edgar (Jason). He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers Joe (Janie) Schurz of St. George, UT; Steve (Sandy) Schurz of Neola, UT; Donald (Karen) Schurz and 1 sister, Bonnie (Cloyd) Kump of St. George, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Carma (Leo) Clark. He will be forever missed in our lives. We love you to the moon and back. Funeral services was conducted on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Lapoint LDS Chapel. A viewing for family and friends will be Thursday evening from 6-8 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and Friday 9:45-10:45 prior to the services at the Chapel. Burial will be in the Lapoint Cemetery, under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
