Hazel Smith

Hazel Murray Atwood Smith, our mother, granny goose, and Grandma Hay, was born January 13, 1924 to Joseph and Mabel Murray in Jensen, Utah. She passed away on April 4, 2013 at Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal, Utah. She was raised and attended school in Jensen. In high school she met the love of her life, Perry Clifton Atwood. They were married on June 22, 1940 and sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on August 11, a952. They had six children; Carma Rae, (Kirby) Connie, (Ronnie) Elaine, (John) Reed, Ernie and Colleen (Terry). She married Lloyd Smith on May 24, 1967. Hazel had 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. There were 2 sets of 6 generations and 5 sets of 5 generations. Little Roberto; great grandson, became her shadow and knight in shining armor. He would take her by the hand and walk her wherever she needed to go. He loved going to church with her as well as painting and playing games. She loved showing him off. Haze served in the Relief Society Presidency with Geneva Massey, whom she loved and admired. She also served as a visiting teacher and in the church library. She always taught her children to work hard in life and she was an example and inspiration to all of her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her brothers; Hyrum and Ray Murray, sisters; Lavon Staley and Lilly Mae Batty, husbands; Cliff Atwood and Lloyd Smith, daughter; Carma Rae and son in law; Kirby Allen, son in law;John Labrum, son; Ernie Atwood, and granddaughter Jodene Perez. Mom, you will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved you. Kiss our dad for us and all the rest of the family waiting for you. We love you, Connie, Elaine, Reed and Colleen. Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Uintah Stake Center with visitations Sunday evening from 6-8 at the Vernal Mortuary and 1 hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
