Gladys Ruth Embleton, age 103 of Vernal, Utah formally of Springfield, Colorado passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home Monday, August 20, 2018. She was born on June 30, 1915 on her family farm in a sod hut in Baca County Colorado,  a daughter of Walter P. and Josephene Elizabeth Harris Powell. She married Thomas J. Embleton on July 15, 1938 in Springfield, Colorado.

Ruth loved teaching and gardening she even had her own green house to supply her family and friends with vegetables.

She started teaching in Dora, Colorado in a one-room schoolhouse. She taught at schools all over Southern Colorado.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Lonnie) Meek of Vernal, Utah; son, Tommy Jay Embleton of Ignacio, Colorado; 2 grandchildren and 7 Great grandchildren, 12 Great great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Springfield District Cemetery Springfield Colorado. A viewing will be held for family and friends Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 6 PM. with a service at 7:00 at the Blackburn and sons Vernal Mortuary. Under the care and direction of the Blackburn and Sons Vernal Mortuary.
