Estel Manwaring Kidd passed away peacefully on January 19, 2016 at Avalon Care Center in Bountiful, Utah. Estel was born November 15, 1932 to Enoch LaVell Manwaring and Ivy Lena Gardiner Manwaring at her Grandmother Manwaring's home in Naples (Vernal), Utah. She attended Naples Elementary and Uintah High School, graduating as a member of Who's Who, the top 10 honor students, and receiving a scholarship to Brigham Young University. She graduated from BYU in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech and a minor in Spanish. In addition, she earned 50 hours of credit beyond her degree studying at Utah State University, the University of Oviedo in Spain, and at BYU including travel study at the Instituto de Mexico City. Estel was a teacher in the Uintah School District for 32 years, beginning at the Ashley Valley Junior High for 3 years, and 29 years at Uintah High School. She developed the Spanish program at Uintah High School, and saw enrollment eventually increase to nine classes, and an assistant teacher was hired. Many of her students won Superior Awards at the BYU language competitions. Over the course of her career Estel was the advisor for the Spanish Club, Pep Club, Speech and Drama Club, and served on numerous faculty committees. She served as a graduation advisor and was the advisor of foreign exchange students. She was chosen as the Arts and Letters Teacher of the Year in 1984 by the Utah Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters, and was honored at the University of Utah. She was also honored by the PTSA in 1987 for outstanding contributions to education. Estel mainly lived in Vernal, Utah, but she spent two summers in Mexico, a summer in Spain and one in Hawaii. She also spent one summer in Pucara, Peru working with the Peace Corp members before she got married. Estel married H. Dee Kidd, April 3, 1969 in the Manti LDS Temple. They have two sons Wayne (Karen) of Bountiful, and Robert (Jennifer) of Vernal; and four grandchildren. Her family was the love and delight of her life. Estel was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many positions. She was the president and counselor in Young Womens; a teacher in Primary, Young Womens, Sunday School, and Relief Society, and was the Teacher Development instructor. She served in several music callings including: Ward Music Chairman, Chorister, Choir Director, and Ward Organist. She also enjoyed serving as the sports and camp director in Young Womens. She served as a Boy Scout Den Mother and received the Second Miler Award from the Utah National Parks Council, Boy Scouts of America for her service to the scouting program. Estel served on an Indian Mission for two and a half years, and served as a stake missionary for two and a half years. In addition, she served as a temple worker in the Vernal Temple for 10 years. She enjoyed many hobbies, sewing, cooking, music, and especially travelling with her family and friends. She enjoyed travelling through Europe, Central and South America, and she has visited all 50 states. Estel was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David LaVell Manwaring; sisters, Lola Wilson and her husband Vere; Laura Simmons and her husband Lavell. She is survived by her husband H. Dee Kidd of Vernal; sons, Wayne (Karen) Kidd of Bountiful, and Robert (Jennifer) Kidd of Vernal; her four grandchildren, Elder Austin Kidd, serving in the West Virgina Charleston Mission, Kara Lynn, Andrew, and Mary Kidd; and sister, Grace Gregg and her husband Donald of Vermillion, SD. Funeral services will be Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Ashley 3rd Ward Chapel (235 East 600 South). A viewing will be Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and at the Chapel one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park, under the direction the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
