Enid Mertz

Enid LaMar Smuin Mertz, 89, born in Vernal, Utah to Hyrum and Idella Smuin on Nov 5, 1923 returned to her Heavenly home on Aug 9, 2013. She lived a life full of fun and adventure. Enid grew up in Vernal, Utah but also made her home in Colorado, California and Nebraska for a short time. Many more of her years were spent in Wyoming and Alaska. She enjoyed taking care of her yard, tending to her garden and flowers. She loved collecting nick nacks, cookie jars and banks. She also loved poetry and witty and wise sayings. She enjoyed the outdoors, picnics, camping, fishing, scenic drives, and above all family. She liked to cook and did beautiful embroidery work. For the last few years Enid lived at Legacy Village in Layton, Utah before moving to Morgan, Utah with her daughter. Her sister Nayon lived accross the hall from her at Legacy. They made many great memories, having a lot of fun together, including activities and entertainment and daily visiting. Enid made many friends easily and everyone who knew her came to love her. She always put everyone else s needs before her own and was always kind, caring and loving toward others. Enid was preceded in death most recently by her husband Carl, two sons, Clay Chivers, and Weldon Chivers, and her son in law Dan Edwards. Surviving Enid are her two daughters, Coleen Edwards of Morgan, Utah and Joyce Boren of Vernal, Utah, a step son Zane Mertz of Florida, two brothers, Larry Smuin and Darris Smuin of Vernal, Utah, two sisters, Lela Greenhow of Vernal, Utah and Nayon Brimhall of Layton, Utah. She left a legacy of 17 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 40 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, and nephews. Enids sense of humor, spunk, and love for others will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. A special thanks to the wonderful Hospice staff, Donette, Cindy, and Edee who cared for and loved Enid thru the end of life. Also, to the wonderful staff at Legacy, thank you for making Enids last few years so meaningful, so much fun, and dignified as well. She truely loved you and her home at Legacy.
