Edward Elroy Walker

Edward Elroy Walker, age 87 of Lapoint Utah passed away at his home on March 21, 2012 following a lingering illness. He was born November 21, 1924 in Union Utah to Leo James and Mary Agnes Foley Walker. The family moved to the Uintah Basin when Elroy was five years old. He lived the rest of his life here. He attended school in Lapoint and graduated from Alterra High School in 1943. Six days later he enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Pacific areas during WWII on a submarine and a sub tender until February 1946. He married Katheryn Huber on April 30, 1947 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. One of the great joys of Elroys life was working on his farm. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. For many years he drove a school bus from Lapoint to Alterra, working in the bus garage during the day. He transferred to the Uintah School District where he continued to drive bus and work as an assistant in the bus garage. He retired from the school district on July 1, 1988. He was active in the LDS Church, serving as a scout leader for many years and as the Young Mens President. He also served in the Elders Quorum and as a counselor in the Bishopric. He and his wife Katheryn enjoyed serving as temple workers for 12 years in both the Provo and Vernal Utah temples. Elroy is survived by his wife of 64 years; Katheryn, 7 children; Alan (Debra) of Bluebell, Kayla Walker of Lapoint, Chris Walker of Lapoint, Cathleen (Will) Wright of Thatcher Arizona, April (Roger) Lund of Lehi and Lynn and Layne Walker of Lapoint, 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother; Keith Walker of Clearfield, and 4 sisters; Madge Filligim of Vernal, Joan (Marion) Morrill of Plain City, Dora Dee (LJ Hearn) Walker and Paulette (Jay) Marchant of Yuma Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Leo Bud Walker, son; Leslie Elroy Walker, and grandchildren; Rick Walker, Fae and Christian Webb, and Kimberly Lund. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lapoint LDS Chapel with viewings Friday evening from 6-8 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and 1 hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in the Lapoint Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 124 and 11 and the Utah Army National Guard. Services were entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
