Dolores Caldwell Lopez

Dolores Caldwell Lopez, 87, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2016. She was born on July 11, 1929 in Vernal, Utah to Violet Mercedes Peters and Thomas Ellsworth Caldwell. She was married to Joseph Albert Lopez June 21st, 1952. Dolores was born and raised on a farm in Vernal, Utah as the youngest of three children. She attended Uintah High School where she participated in numerous activities and enjoyed many friends. She continued her education at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. While she attended school, Joe served in the Marines. Following her education and Joe's military service, they were married. They immediately began to travel to various states and countries where Joe was stationed during his employment with Kerr McGee Oil Company. Dolores naturally loved people and thoroughly enjoyed meeting new friends of different backgrounds and cultures while on their travels. Dolores enjoyed doing genealogy. She spent several summers in the Southwest searching for names of ancestors and preparing genealogical records. Although she spent considerable time traveling, she enjoyed her home in Vernal the most. She raised beautiful flowers and was known for her garden of colorful gladiolus. Family and friends always looked forward to the sour dough breads and empanadas she would bake. Her marriage to Joe was filled with cooperation, respect, and love. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her quick humor and happy attitude brightened the days of many. During the last few years, her son Dan spent hours at her side brightening each of her days. Dolores was, and will always be, the heart of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Weston Caldwell; and sister Lois Noel. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Lopez; children: Dan Lopez, Nancy Jacobsen (John); grandchildren: Nathan, Thomas, Sam, Jared; and several great grandchildren. Family gathered at the Vernal Cemetery where she was laid to rest on October 13th, 2016. Interment was under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the nurses and friends who so kindly assisted Dolores during the last few years. www.blackburnvernalmortuary.com
