Carma Ross Preece

Carma Ross Preece, age 91, of Vernal, Utah passed away on July 4, 2015. Mom was born on July 3, 1924 (close enough to the 4th she always said the fireworks were for her) in Lapoint, Utah to James Thomas Ross, Jr. and Pearlie May Marshall Ross. She graduated from Uintah High School in 1942 and in the same year married Ralph A. Preece. They are the parents of five children. Mom was a wonderful mother, grandma, and granny. She loved oil painting and crocheting Afghans which many of her children, grandchildren and friends now enjoy. She was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she valued her membership and testimony as priceless. She served temple missions in Dallas, Texas; Washington DC (twice and she loved the cherry blossoms); and Provo, Utah. She served as a stake missionary in the Vernal Utah Ashley Stake for two years. She was an ordinance worker in the Vernal Utah Temple for many years. She served in many of the ward and stake auxiliaries throughout her life. She enjoyed the children in Primary, the Young Women in the organization, but her great love and calling was as Relief Society President, where she made many friends among the ward and with her counselors. It was in this organization that her love of service was able to shine and in which she was able to show her children how to serve. She spent many hours cleaning, cooking, and tending for others. Many may remember receiving a loaf of her delicious homemade bread. Mom also preformed service with her shorthand and typing skills by writing down many infant blessings, baptism confirmations, and patriarchal blessings. She worked for the Uintah School district and the Uintah County Health Department. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Ashley Bartlett and siblings; Virginia Adams, Eugene Dale Ross, Iola Inez Warren, Howard Ross, and Sydney Bea Escamilla. She is survived by her children, Brent Preece of Orem, Utah; Gerry (Duane) Tucker of Gearhart, Oregon; Janet (Rick) Pedersen of Vernal, Utah; Lorri (Sam) Attaya of Woodland, Texas; Daryl (Penny) Preece of Anthem, Arizona. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 23 Great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Olsen, Glines Beehive Home and the Uintah Care Center for their loving, compassionate care. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glines 1st Ward Chapel (1499 West Hwy 40, Vernal, Utah). Friends and family may call Friday evening at Mortuary from 6:00-8:00 and from 9:30-10:45 A.M. at the Church prior to the services. Burial will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery, services are under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. www.blackburnvernalmortuary.com
