Bretta "SUE" Holmes

Bretta “Sue” Holmes age, 77 passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024 at her home in Vernal, UT. Sue was born July 2, 1946 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Brett and Alene Hendricks. They later moved to Vernal, living in the Maeser area. 

As kids Sue and her siblings had lots of adventures including hanging a dummy in the tree over their road to scare people as they drove by. It backfired however when someone stopped and stole the dummy with her brothers’ new shoes on it. They all got into trouble for that. She was always athletic in high school she loved to run. She wanted to run track and could beat most of the boys but they wouldn’t let her participate because she was a girl. 

She met Jack, her life long love while on a mutual activity trip down at the green river. They married July 20, 1963.

She loved the mountains, camping, and hunting with the family. She loved nothing better than being on the mountain with her family around a roaring campfire roasting hotdogs! And her family would laugh because she burnt them to a crisp. 

Sue played baseball and bowled when she was younger and excelled in both. Her work experience included Yellow front for many years in the parts department. She had a lot of knowledge about parts being raised by a mechanic. She later worked at coastal as  a secretary with her best friend Tonah.

After her husband Jack passed, Sue struggled for awhile missing him so much. But after time had passed, she started to find great enjoyment in her grandkids and great grandkids. The last few years her health prevented her from doing a lot of things she wanted. But seeing her little great grandkids brought her a lot of happiness and laughter. 

Her family always knew how much she loved and appreciated them and will miss her very much. 

She is survived by her children; Jana (Kreg) Augustus, Janine (Mark) Boren, Jentry (Dan) Farinsky, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Brett and Alene Hendricks, her husband Jack Holmes, brother Chris Hendricks, sister Deeann Oaks, and great grandson Connor Scott Cranford Taft. 

She would always tell her kids and grandkids on her birthday that she was turning 39!

Well she is with Jack now, healthy, happy and forever 39!

We will miss you and we love you very much!!

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Rock Point Cemetery @ 11 AM, please meet at the Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
