Karma Elliott Smuin, 92, passed away on Thursday May 24th at her residence in Salt Lake City. She was born April 13th, 1926 to Clawson Spicer Elliott and Elva Hunsaker in Salt Lake City, Utah. Karma is survived by her children: LaVon Bascom, LaRue Smuin, Kathy (Charles) Willard, Caroline (Mark) Mabey and son-in-law Dennis Henline. Her siblings: Darlene (Larry) Dimick, Betty (Rex) Smuin, Sheryl (Ivan) Sadlier and her brother-in-law Jay Wall, 17 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Keith Horace Smuin, children: Diane Henline, Keith Jr. Smuin, and son-in-law Gary Bascom along with her siblings Ferris (Nola) Elliott, LaDon (Leda) Elliott, LaVona Elliott and Carol Wall. Karma raised her family in Vernal, Utah. Her and her husband Keith worked at the Uintah County Jail where he was the jailer and she was Matron and dispatcher. She also spent time as security at Inkley’s Photo Warehouse, before starting Grandma’s Country Boutique in Naples where she sold home made gifts, ceramics and crafts. She served a full time LDS mission in 1987 and was also served as a Temple worker in the South Jordan and Vernal temples. Karma was known for her quilt making. She loved making them for her family, friends and donating them for humanitarian purposes. Karma loved to serve others, and was loved by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29th at 2pm at the Vernal Stake Center, (850 West 100 North), Vernal, Utah. Viewings for family and friends will be from 12:45-1:45pm as well as a viewing Monday, May 28th from 6-8pm at Blackburn and Sons Vernal Mortuary.
